Dr. Sharon Gerecht Kicks Off BME Seminar Series

Every Semester, the Biomedical Engineering Department organizes a seminar series that exposes students from the undergraduate to post-doctoral level to research conducted by Professors who are at the top of their respective fields. As a Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Sharon Gerecht kicked off the seminar series on Wednesday, September 11th with her talk entitled Guiding 3D Vascular Fate and Assembly. In her talk Dr. Gerecht discussed the extracellular matrix and low oxygen concentrations (hypoxia) as two critical microenvironmental factors that are critical for blood vessel growth and stabilization. See the publications tab to learn more about how these physiochemical cues in addition to downstream signaling pathways guide vascular fate and assembly in progenitor and pluripotent stem cells.
